A Close Call in Connecticut: The School Failed us Both

The school put a child in my room and failed to tell me he had IEP. I also lacked the training to meet his issues. I was assaulted by this student, after knowing him for only about 30 minutes. He never showed any aggressive behaviors, so I never saw it coming. I was bending over my desk, when he attacked me on my back. The police were involved, the student convicted as a YO, and got AR and help. I went out on Worker's Comp.

Then 18 days later, they fired me with one day notice. They would not wait to meet with my attorney to discuss the issues. They also posted that I was terminated for performance reasons on the web. The school failed us both.

Now, almost two years later, I am still hurt, paying to see doctor, unemployable (after over 150+ resumes sent out and only two phone calls), and very sad that my life has changed so much. I can tell you that the only reason I am still here is that I would never do anything to make my children cry. But for a long while the thought was there. Life has gotten so much better, as I have had wonderful support from my family and those who I am close to. I want to help others, before they too become the victims of our schools. I am willing to speak, if there is anyone who wishes to listen.
